What is the sunlight control function?

Exterior wall design of modern buildings often uses a large number of glass. Therefore, the focus of the glass exterior wall is solar energy control and the comfort of the occupants. Solar energy control refers to the ability of glass to manage the amount of solar radiation entering a building. With the improvement of solar energy control level, the natural light, glare and indoor temperature of buildings can be managed.

Light protection


It is necessary to use laminated glass to resist the glare caused by direct exposure to solar radiation. This is mainly achieved by reducing light transmission through absorption (colored) and/or coated glass panels (with metal coatings).

Solar protection

Solar energy is converted into heat through glass panels. Solar radiation in visible and infrared regions can be controlled by combining absorption (colored) glass panels, coated glass panels or low emissivity glass panels.

Ultraviolet Protection

Ultraviolet radiation has high energy and short wavelength, which can damage ink, pigments and polymers. Such damage may cause discoloration of fabrics, clothes and other internal accessories, as well as damage to unprotected plastics. Visible light may also cause damage, but the main cause of material damage is the wavelength of ultraviolet radiation. The possible impact of damage will multiply with the decrease of wavelength. Saflex intermediate membrane can selectively filter more than 99% of ultraviolet radiation.

Transparent laminated glass


The sandwich glass made of Huakai intermediate film can absorb more than 99% ultraviolet radiation (less than 380 nanometers). Compared with single transparent glass with the same thickness, laminated glass can absorb more infrared radiation. The solar transmittance of 33.2 laminated glass is 4% lower than that of ordinary 6mm glass, while the transmittance is only 1%.


Colored sandwich glass

In sandwich module, the wavelength range of visible spectrum can be broadened by using color Vanceva intermediate film and colored glass, and the transmittance and solar transmittance can be reduced according to the color intensity. Tone intensity depends not on the thickness of the PVB, but on the density of the shading. For laminated glass panels made of color Vanceva intermediate film (99% UV protection), the following table shows their light energy characteristics. Vanceva intermediate membranes are used to selectively filter more than 99% of ultraviolet radiation.

Although most Chinese building PVB intermediate film can be used in combination with coated glass to provide sunlight control function, Huakai thermal insulation intermediate film is a special product.

Huakai insulating intermediate film is a solar energy absorbing PVB intermediate film. Compared with uncoated transparent and traditional laminated glass, Huakai insulating intermediate film can improve the ability of sunlight and control by reducing the heat gain of solar energy. Huakai insulating intermediate film can be used in single laminated glass, in combination with on-line low radiation coated glass, or in hollow glass structure (IGU) with or without low radiation coated glass. Huakai insulating intermediate film is usually used in combination with thermal strengthening or tempered glass, which can effectively reduce the transmission of solar heat in buildings and help to reduce glare.

Huakai insulating intermediate film has the following advantages:

Safety function: If the glass is broken by man-made or accidental impact, the glass fragments will adhere to the intermediate membrane, reducing the risk of personnel being cut or stabbed. If laminated glass is properly installed in the frame system, it can also provide anti-falling protection.

Security function: Laminated glass structure can be used in the system to provide adequate protection level, thus preventing intentional attacks, including intentional destruction and theft, explosion-proof and ballistic attacks.

Does laminated glass affect plant health?

It is suggested to use laminated glass in greenhouses and botanical gardens.

In fact, plant photoreceptors absorb solar energy in a certain range of visible light (mainly 450, 660 and 730 nanometers). Therefore, laminated glass allows all the solar energy needed for plant photosynthesis to pass through. It protects the color and reproduction of flowers from ultraviolet radiation. Ultraviolet radiation is also a calcium absorption factor that makes leaves fragile and fragile. However, for a few rare species, the input of ultraviolet radiation contributes to the formation of colours and the production of anti-ultraviolet pigments. Huakai thermal insulation intermediate film is designed to improve the ability of sunlight control and develop a solar energy absorption PVB intermediate film. Compared with the standard transparent polyvinyl butyral (PVB), this product can reduce the heat gain from solar energy through glass, and also has a higher visible light transmittance.

In addition, Huakai thermal insulation intermediate film is similar to the traditional Huakai transparent PVB intermediate film. It also has safety function, security function and sound insulation function.

It can be combined with other Huakai PVB intermediate membranes.

Huakai insulating intermediate film can be combined with the following products:

§ Huakai transparent intermediate membrane is a traditional PVB intermediate membrane.

§ Huakai sound-proof intermediate membrane is a three-layer structure, which can enhance sound attenuation between 1000 and 4000 Hz (Hz) compared with traditional PVB intermediate membrane. This enhancement enables glass structures to be designed with fewer air gaps and/or thinner glass to achieve the same sound reduction level as traditional and historical practices.

The PVB intermediate membrane of Huakai structure can be used for laminated glass structures of floors, stairs, glass ribs, railings, protective devices and roofs.

Huakai GR Membrane and Huakai Storm-proof Membrane can provide enhanced protection when needed from tropical cyclones and hurricanes with wind-borne debris.

The Huakai series and Huakai color intermediate film show the possibility of using different colors in the exterior or or interior glass without increasing the thickness of the glass to achieve color intensity, or delaying the waiting for stained glass activities or ordering large quantities of customized stained glass. Both products are very flexible in customization or modification, and enhance the aesthetic feeling of the exterior wall, which helps to reduce glare. The combination of Huakai thermal insulation intermediate film and Huakai color intermediate film or special intermediate film can change color.
